Every Year in October we have a party or activity in
remembrance of Ammon and Abish Fisher, our angel babies who would be 8
and 5 years old this month. Along with our Friends Jayne and Luzvi who
have also lost loved ones we decided to have a benefit party!
We invited our friends and family to join us for
an evening of fun and food and friendship to help raise money for
Ongoing Research for drugs to treat MECP2 Duplication Syndrome. This
rare condition presents in only around 1 in 10,000 births and primarily
male children.
This is a cause with a connection close to home.
Elijah Newland (above pic) is stricken with this condition. He is 6 years old and
in 1st grade at our local school. We have known Eli and his family for several years. While Eli is very expressive, he does not yet talk and must be led when walking. He has been making some progress of late but one of the frightening
parts of this condition is the risk of a seizure which could erase the
progress that has been made.
"The 401 Project" is the
organization raising money for the research into this syndrome and will
be receiving the proceeds from our activity. According to researchers
involved in this work there are very bright prospects for being able to
create a medication which could reverse the effects of the syndrome.
Here
are the photos from the "MECP2 Duplication Syndrome" fundraiser we did.
It turned out wonderfully and in the end raised just over
$1620! We are all so pleased and want to say Thank You to all who
participated
